IC:
Character Name: Ariadne Laurent

Canon: Inception

AU/OC/Previous Game: AU

Age: 26

Appearance: Ariadne is rather short, around 5’4. She’s very lithe, though she tends to appear a lot more fragile than she really is. Her dark brown hair is naturally soft and wavy, and her complexion is very clear. She has good posture generally, and carries herself with confidence. She tends to wear ragged jeans, corduroy or jean jackets, a random t-shirt, and one of her varied assortment of colorful scarves.

Cause of Death: As she was heading back home from a meeting with contractors, she was fairly distracted. Things were looking up, and she was being noticed by large corporation for the first time. But while she had been spotted by the company, she failed to spot the gleaming headlights as she crossed the street. She was struck head-on by a drunk driver in a truck. Death was instantaneous.

Impact of Death: The fact that she’s ended up in such an interesting place after death will definitely cheer her up, and take the edge off the fact that she’s actually dead. She’ll feel sad, of course, but the disconnect between her parents, most of her friends, and herself is enough so that she won’t miss them too much. The only people she will miss are the men she’s vaguely kept in touch with since the Inception Project. Deep down, she’ll feel a nagging sort of regret at not speaking with her parents as much before, well, dying – but she’ll try to suppress that. There’s no point in worrying – she has to make the most of her situation now.

Character Info:
Ariadne Laurent was born in a small town in Nebraska to parents who were rather old – in their mid-forties. They doted on their only child, and gave in to her every whim – not that she had many. Ariadne was content to play with the neighborhood kids as a child, and she was remarkably selfless for a young girl. As she grew older and went to school, she found that she excelled in her studies compared to the other children her age; particularly in math and in art. She found that she had a great passion for these subjects, along with a passion for asking questions and exploring new things, whether they were people, places, or concepts.

In her teenage years, she began to grow bored of her quiet town. Sure, it was a nice place. But it was boring. Way too boring for a girl of her character. Teachers gave her odd looks when she professed her dreams of visiting her home country of France, or becoming famous. No one from their town ever traveled far away. At least nine out of every ten kids ended up going to the nearby community college, then coming straight back home to work as a teacher. The others worked as police officers and firefighters. That’s just how life was.

So everyone was surprised when she actually got accepted to the Paris School of Architecture in her senior year in high school. Everyone besides her parents, that is – they had always known that she had potential beyond what their small town had to offer. There was a definite disconnect between Ariadne and her parents – while they supported her endeavors, they didn’t understand her or any of her passions. Ariadne, on the other hand, always felt like they were humoring her when she went on about seeing the world and the beauty of new countries. She would never regret leaving her home.

Thanks to a special program she took part in, she attained her Master’s Degree in five years. Her professor, Miles, also indirectly introduced her to the Inception Project. Getting involved in the architecture of dreams not only changed her life, but caused her to excel even more when she returned to her classes again. After completely finishing her degree, she immediately started working, getting contracted by small companies to work on designs. She occasionally kept in touch with the men from the Project, but besides that, she spent most of her time traveling from country to country alone, marveling in the sights and quickly building a name for herself as an upcoming young architect.

Ariadne Laurent is a creative, passionate girl. She is constantly enamored by the world around her, and longs to make an impact on any environment that she is in. She has the perfect amount of self-confidence, and she’s very assured that what she says is right. This does lead her to be very headstrong and stubborn at times, something that she’ll readily admit. She is an unconsciously curious individual, and she has a habit of asking a lot of questions and not being satisfied with the answers that she gets. However, as evidenced by her reaction to Cobb’s situation, she will back off on the prying if it seems like the other person is getting uncomfortable. She is compassionate and she can read people fairly well, so she can usually tell when she’s pushing too far. She has no problems being blunt or straightforward, however, if she feels it’s needed.

She does enjoy being a tease, though. She’s all up for pushing just short of too far, and she enjoys to have fun with (and make fun of) her friends. Her humor is rather dry and sarcastic at some times, but sometimes has the potential to be... ridiculous. Just listen to some of her puns. She has a tendency to talk a lot, and she’s very much a person who needs to talk about things to everyone and anyone who’ll listen. She’ll reciprocate if the time comes, and offer anyone a shoulder to lean on. Half because of her compassion, and half because she’s curious as to what’s got them down.

The most important thing about life, to her, is that it’s interesting. She couldn’t stand living in a boring place; she moved out of her peaceful and quiet hometown for a reason. And so, she aspires to find something interesting in everyone and everything. Some find it annoying. Some find it entertaining. She calls it her life’s purpose – to bring a little more something into the world.

Introduce yourself in a few sentences.

Just a few? Well, I’m Ariadne Laurent. I’ve finished my Master’s Degree in the Paris School of Architecture. I was born in some dinky town in Nebraska – I promise you, you won’t know it. I’m fluent in French, I’m a cat person...

...I like pink margaritas and long walks on the beach.

Describe yourself physically.

Physically? I’m pretty short. Pretty petite all over, actually. I dress really casually – but that isn’t physical, is it? What else...? I seem delicate, or something, but I’m pretty tough! Don’t underestimate these guns. ... They’re there somewhere, I swear.

What was your childhood like?

My childhood? I guess if you wanted me to describe it in a word, it’d be typical. I lived in the white-picket house in the suburban neighborhood. Only child, had a pet cat, hung out with friends. I still talk with them on Facebook occasionally.

Who is most important to you, and why?

... Professor Miles, probably. He... introduced me to some very important people.

What's your biggest pet peeve?

A pet peeve? I don’t really get bothered by much, I’d say... but I do really, really hate having to write with pens. There’s no remorse if you make a mistake.

Do you consider yourself an optimist or a pessimist? Why?

I’d say I’m an optimist, I guess. I’m generally pretty cheery.

Where, or how, did you learn your most important skills?

... In college. I have a Master’s in architecture from Ecole D’architecture in Paris.

Do you think world peace is possible?

I doubt it. I mean, humans just have a tendency to fight. I don’t think I’d want world peace, to be honest. It’d be... boring.

Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?

I argue with people all the time. I tend to be pretty hotheaded, especially when people don’t agree with me.

What turns you on the most?

... Wow. Sorry to break your heart, but I don’t really just... tell people this.

Anything else you'd like to say?

Architecture is an unappreciated art. I think. But that's all.
